About this Blog

This site is dedicated to promoting strong refugees and their families who have resettled in the U.S.

My graduate studies at the University of Georgia have inspired me to promote research and outreach related to refugee families who have overcome huge obstacles. Through my own recent research with Karen refugees from Burma, I have learned that these families show more strength and resilience than I could ever imagine possible after everything they have suffered.

The United States was settled by immigrants and refugees. We continue to welcome those who flee their homelands for the sake of their families and in hopes of finding a better life. They must leave their native homeland behind, recreate a home, identity and life for themselves.

I strongly believe that resilience is a powerful asset these families and individuals bring to our country. By recognizing their contribution, we are able to meet their needs more effectively, and we are encouraged to mutually respect one another.
